Know more about me.....

My name is António Aleixo, and I’m an award-winning filmmaker with over 15 years of international experience. After a decade directing high-end commercial work, I’m now dedicating myself fully to what has always driven me: telling meaningful, transformative stories through travel and expedition documentaries.
From an early age, I’ve been passionate about exploring the world — not just as a traveller, but as a storyteller. Over the years, I’ve built a body of work that reflects that passion: internationally recognized travel films and documentaries that have won awards, moved audiences, and earned me a dedicated content channel on TAP Air Portugal’s onboard entertainment system, with over 4 million users annually. I believe deeply in the power of travel to broaden perspectives and connect cultures, and I’m committed to using film to share that with others.
I was twice nominated (2019 and 2023) and awarded in 2019 by the Portuguese Film Academy with a Sophia Award for Best Short Documentary, among other accolades. I’m a storyteller at heart, with a keen eye for rhythm, emotion, and human connection. My background spans TV commercials, music videos, documentaries, fiction, and branded content — working as both writer/director and senior editor — with clients such as DELTA, Volkswagen, HSBC/SABB, Segurança Social, Sony Music, and MTV, among many others.
My work has taken me across the globe — from São Tomé to Saudi Arabia, Vanuatu to Chile, Cape Verde to the Philippines — and I’ve filmed on location in more than 50 countries, always adapting to new environments and cultures, and leading diverse production teams from pre to post.
Now, I’m looking to channel that experience into long-form, emotionally resonant travel and expedition films — projects that matter, that challenge, and that inspire. I’m currently seeking new partnerships, producers, and collaborators who share this vision.
Awards and recognition
I’ve won dozens of awards. Over the years I’ve been awarded over 50 times. Nevertheless I believe that the most significant awards must’ve been the two nominations for a Sophia Award, by the Portuguese Film Academy, for Best Short Documentary. Having actually won the award in 2019, with “Kids Sapiens Sapiens”. More recently I wrote and directed a fiction short which made a beautiful festival round, having won over 25 awards and 15 nominations. It ‘s called “O Fim era Apenas o Início” – https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32432496/?ref_=nm_ov_bio_lk
Travel isn’t just about destinations — it’s about moments that change the way we see the world. Over fifteen years filming across fifty countries, I’ve discovered the stories that make travel meaningful, and why every journey can inspire change.
